Black Palm, Redheart wood Seam Ripper

It is made from Black Palm Wood with the segments being Redheart wood and White Birch. Black Palm comes from Tropical Asia and Africa, technically neither a softwood nor a hardwood, palm falls into the category of monocots, which also includes bamboo, grass, banana, rice, wheat, corn, etc. The scientific name is Borassus flabellifer. Redheart comes from Southern Mexico to southern Brazil and Paraguay, it is also called Chakte Kok. The scientific name is Erythroxylum spp. and Simira spp. White Birch comes from Northern and central North America, most commonly called Paper Birch. The scientific name is Betula papyrifera.
Specifications
The metal fittings are Satin Chrome. The overall closed length is 4 1/2" (11.43cm), and 11/16” (1.74cm) wide. Open length is 5 1/4” (13.33cm).
Construction
The very first thing I do is hand select each piece and then turn the item to its final shape. The item is then sanded 7 times with progressively finer grits of sandpaper, to create a very smooth surface. Multiple different glues and waxes are applied to protect the pen for years of hard use. Each pen goes through a 21 step process to achieve the lustrous polished to a mirror-like shine.
