Hawaiian Silky Oak with African Mahogany Cigar Pen
This is one of those woods that has a fun history. This wood did come from Hawaii, but the origins of Silky Oak originates from the eastern coastal region of Australia. The wood is actually called Southern Silky Oak, scientific name: Grevillea robusta. It was imported to Hawaii in 1851. Over a fifty-year period, 2.1 million silk oak trees were planted for forestry. Because it has broad climate adaptability, it has naturalized wherever it was planted. Today it is one of Hawaii's most invasive horticultural plants.
The segments are made from African Mahogany which comes from tropical Africa.

Pen Construction
The very first thing I do is hand-select each piece and then turn the pen to the final shape. This pen is turned on the Cross-grain, giving it a unique shimmer. The pen is then sanded 7 times with progressively finer grits of sandpaper, to create a very smooth surface. Multiple different types of glue and waxes are applied to protect the pen for years of hard use. Each pen goes through a 21-step process to achieve the lustrous polished to a mirror-like shine.
Your pen will come in a gray velvet box.
The pen in the picture is the one you will receive. If you are interested in multiple pens, please contact me. Since each pen is a unique work of art, exact duplicates are not possible. But, I will do my best to create a pen that looks similar using the same wood and finish.
